Todes Juntes was a 96’ long mural on Sunset Blvd. commissioned by NeueHouse to capstone the Car-ing Futures series during Trans-Awareness month in November 2022. The mural explores the archives of visual culture and the lacuna of trans bodies in our contemporary culture. Throughout history, the systemic marginalization of trans bodies through America’s healthcare, housing, and financial systems has forced an erasure of Trans bodies and voices that Marcel Pardo Ariza looks to include for the future. As a capstone to the Caring Futures series, Todes Juntes is a visual collage of key activists and politicians, mothers and drag queens, artists, and writers, amongst many other multi-hyphenate community leaders that have transformed and uplifted the Trans and queer community in the Bay Area, a city that leads the fight for Trans rights, as exemplified by one of the founding of the first Transgender District. It is an ode to the legendary figures across generations that continue to enable unity and healing through celebration, pleasure, love, and care.
