Following the passing of artist Rutherford Chang, the Estate engaged West of Here to help establish the operational, strategic, and public-facing foundations of the artist's legacy. Beginning with the planning and realization of Hundreds and Thousands—Chang's first major institutional exhibition at UCCA Center for Contemporary Art in Beijing—the engagement expanded into long-term estate strategy, communications, archive organization, and relationship development with museums, curators, publishers, and collectors.

West of Here served as a strategic partner to the Estate across exhibition production, estate management, and institutional outreach. For Hundreds and Thousands, we coordinated all exhibition logistics between the Estate and UCCA, including artwork preparation, shipping, insurance, installation planning, exhibition texts, photography, and production timelines. We also designed and produced a three-day opening program that brought together more than 40 international artists, curators, collectors, collaborators, and museum leaders for a series of private events surrounding the exhibition opening.
Beyond the exhibition, West of Here helped establish the groundwork for Rutherford Chang's long-term legacy. We led communications and publicity surrounding the exhibition launch, resulting in coverage across leading international art publications including The Art Newspaper, Frieze, and Art in America. We also advised on future institutional strategy, acquisitions, conservation, archive organization, digital preservation, and the development of a future monograph—helping transform a newly formed artist estate into an institution capable of stewarding an evolving artistic legacy.
